Silage is a technique aimed at forage preservation, based on lactic fermentation. This fermentation process is carried out by lactic bacteria (Lactobacilli) under absence of oxygen (anaerobiosis), which use carbohydrates as substrate and produce lactic acid as a final product.
The use of bacterial inoculants allows increasing the initial concentration of lactic bacteria thereby achieving acceleration of the fermentation process and anticipation of the stabilization of the material in better pH and temperature conditions.
